It’s Puppy Training Season!
We have had an influx of puppies this month at DognPooch! It’s always great to see owners starting their pup’s life off with a great head start through a training program. The amazing thing about our dog training is that it can be done at any age from 4 months old to many years old. We can teach old dogs new tricks, but it is more rewarding to teach puppies the right way to behave before they develop bad habits.

Meet Coco – a 5 month old Morkie. She didn’t have any major problems coming to us other than a lack of training. She didn’t let that stop her! After just her second walk with us, she was already walking on a loose leash. Check out her progress!
This last video is the day before she left our dog training program. She has learned to thrive in structure. She has learned that the crate is her space. She understands the commands “sit”, “place”, “heel”, and “come”. She has a great head start and it will be up to the owner to continue her discipline, structure, and training to ensure she has a safe, fun, and fulfilling life ahead of her.
So how do you solve the biggest problems with puppy training – as the title asks?
You start early.
Remember that everything you do with your puppy the moment you bring them home is training. If you respond to them when they whine, you are training them that they can get attention that way. If you allow them to jump, you are training them that there are no consequences for unwanted behavior.
If you teach them what their role is in your family, they understand their place. They may challenge you from time to time, but they will accept the structure, discipline and rules you set for them. They’ll crave it and live by them as long as you enforce those rules.
When you get a puppy, make sure you are teaching them the behaviors you want. Teach them that the crate is a safe place. Teach them that biting is not acceptable. Teach them that if they want to do something fun, they must walk loosly on a leash. Teach them that other people and dogs are not threatening and can become good friends. It isn’t easy, but it is simple.
